Undergraduate Program

The Undergraduate Physics Students
The undergraduate student body of the department is composed of brilliant young achievers. It has taken pride of producing 11 cum laude, 4 magna cum laude and 3 out of the 5 summa cum laude graduates ever produced by the institute. From 1998 to 2003, the department produced the highest honor of being the Class Valedictorian every other year.

It also made its way to national awards. The body produced champions to national physics tournaments organized by the University of the Philippines Physics Students Society (UPPSS) and has been the defending champion for the last two and only tournaments organized to date. Student delegates to the prestigious Ayala Young Leaders Congress (AYLC) were given national award in the last two consecutive years.

The students have contributed more than 40 oral and paper presentations to local conferences organized by Philippine Physics Society, Samahang Pisika ng Pilipinas, the Philippine Computer and Chemistry Societies and in international conferences in Thailand, Taiwan, Japan, and Italy. The students are also responsible to the bi-annual contest called the “Physics Brain Tournament”.

Undergraduate Programs

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN PHYSICS - The curriculum of the four-year program leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Physics is designed to equip the students with a broader and deeper knowledge in understanding the complexities of the physical world . It provides the students with strong problem solving skills and a rigorous training that would serve as a solid foundation for advanced studies in the graduate level. Aside from actual work experience in physics teaching, this program requires students an approved problem in either theoretical or experimental physics to serve as their undergraduate thesis. This is intended to introduce students to research and development works.

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN APPLIED PHYSICS (with concentrations in Material Science and Electronics and Instrumentation) - to be implemented soon.

Entrance Examination for B.S. Physics Freshmen
Students applying for admission to the BS Physics program should have a score of at least 100 in SASE results. If BS Physics program is among his/her preferred programs as indicated in student's SASE form, a score of 90 and above maybe admitted.

The BS Physics Program has been given top priority by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST). Most of the undergraduate scholarship slots in the Institute are awarded to BS Physics students in order to support the vision of DOST. Incoming BS Physics freshmen belonging to the top 20 in the MSU System Admission and Scholarship Examination (SASE) are entitled to a free tuition fee and a monthly stipend of P400.00 or P3,500.00 if a student is a DOST scholar.

Related Activities:
1.Physics Brain Tournament  - a battle of the brains in physics for high school and college students. Held once every two years (beginning March 1998).
2.Physics Olympics
3.Alay sa Physics Graduates - a tribute to the graduating batch held every year.

1. Katipunan ng mga Mag-aral sa Pisika (KMP) - students enrolled in the BS Physics Program is automatically a member of this organization.
