Announcement and Call for Papers
The Samahang Pisika ng Visayas at Mindanao (SPVM) announces the 12th SPVM National Physics Conference to be held on October 21 - 23, 2010 at the Central Philippine University, Iloilo City, Philippines. This is an annual activity of the SPVM to showcase advances in physics research and education as well as enhance collaboration among physicists, physics educators and students in the Philippines, contributing to the development of the Philippine nation.Submission of Papers
We are now accepting extended abstracts for paper contributions and poster presentations for the conference. Equal emphasis will be given to research results in theoretical, experimental and computational physics and related fields, as well as new developments in physics pedagogy at the high school and college levels. We highly encourage submissions from all participants. All submissions will undergo a peer-review process by SPVM Publications Committee before final acceptance is made. Deadline for submission of extended abstracts will be on August 28, 2010. Late submissions may not be published in the Conference Proceedings.Authors are required to submit both the three-page paper and the one-page extended abstract. Download the SPVM instructions in preparing three-page paper [spvmlatex.pdf] and one-page extended abstract [spvmlatex_1page.pdf]. Authors may also download the LaTeX class and the LaTeX source files [spvmlatex.zip]. They may use the pdfLaTeX tool to directly produce the PDF files. However, if Encapsulated PostScript (eps) figures are included, authors should use the LaTeX tool and convert the dvi format to pdf using dvi2pdf tool. Those who would like to submit their paper in Microsoft Word format, download the following files: [SPVMinstructions.doc], [SPVMinstructions_1page.doc].
Send your abstracts as an email attachment to spvmcontact@gmail.com or spvmcontact@physics.msuiit.edu.ph, or mail a printed version together with an electronic copy to SPVM c/o Department of Physics, MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology, Iligan City, Philippines 9200.

Venue
Iloilo City, is one of the most accessible cities in the country. Its strategic location, about 283 statute miles from Manila through Antique waters and 337.6 nautical miles through Capiz waters, made it the business and government gateway to the fluorishing region of Western Visayas. From Manila, Iloilo City is only 45 minutes by plane and 18 hours by the fastest ship. From Cebu, it is only 25 minutes by plane.Iloilo City, determined to recapture its crown as the "Queen City of the South", continue to stride towards revitalizing socio-economic growth. The coming in of multi-million investments and the rise in private building construction and emergence of new industries give a beam to its business atmosphere.
The city's population represents a big manpower pool and a growing consumer market. Purchasing power is generally high given the favorable income distribution in Iloilo. Assuring the business sector of a steady supply of multi-skilled manpower are the city's 22 tertiary schools.
Iloilo City is known for its notable events such as "The Dinagyang Festival" where it is celebrated every fourth weekend of January to commemorate the Christianization of the natives and to honor the Holy Child Jesus. It is a very colorful parade coupled with a dramatization in honor of the patron Saint Sto. Niño as the object of dramatized offerings and prayers amidst the cracking of drums and shouts of "Viva Señor Santo Niño". The thundering of "Hala Bira" by the tribe members makes the celebration a lively one.
